Asbestos was used in a wide range of building products for decades. Age alone does not confirm asbestos content, and appearance cannot confirm it either — only laboratory analysis of a properly collected sample can.

How these requests are handled

Asbestos work is heavily regulated. Inspection, sampling, abatement, containment, disposal and notification requirements are governed by federal and Florida requirements, and this work must be performed by appropriately licensed and certified professionals.

Tallahassee Remediation is not an asbestos contractor and does not perform asbestos inspection, sampling, abatement or disposal. Requests involving suspected asbestos-containing materials are routed to providers appropriately qualified and licensed for that work, who are responsible for their own credentials and for compliance with applicable requirements.

If you think you found asbestos

• Stop work in the area and do not sand, scrape, cut, drill or sweep the material.
• Do not use a household vacuum on suspect debris.
• Limit access to the area and leave the material undisturbed.
• Photograph the material from a distance and note the approximate age of the building.
• Submit a request describing the material, its location and the project you were doing.
